In Portugal soup traditionally precedes every main course, it is the perfect way to get your taste buds going.
I am often asked what is a traditional Portuguese soup, but when each region has their own typical dishes, it can be a long conversation!

Vegetarian soups are healthy and low fat.
If you are looking to feel full but do not wish to consume a lot of calories, why not add more soups to your diet?
Soup usually contains between 150-200 calories (depending on ingredients), whereas another meal can contain 600-1000 calories.

The stomach needs to work less hard to process soup leaving you feel less bloated. Digestion is made easier with liquids.
It is also a great way to increase kids' five a day, children may not enjoy eating solid  vegetables but smooth blended soup may be more appetizing for them.

During childhood a healthy diet is most critical, growth hormones benefit from a diet rich in vitamins, protein, and anti-oxidants.

It is very important not to force children to eat ingredients they "do not like".  It can only lead to more complications when they are older.
Instead find alternative ways to make the experience for fun for them.  Why not get them involved with cooking?
